Premium car manufacturer BMW had an excellent year in terms of regional sales in the Middle East with a record delivery of more than 20,000 vehicles last financial year. 2012 has been lauded as the most successful year in the history of the company in terms of regional sales with a steep 14 percent increase across 13 markets as compared to the 2011 figures. With nearly 10,000 vehicles delivered, the UAE retained its position as the biggest market accounting for 47 percent of BMWs’ and MINIs’ regional sales. Abu Dhabi also witnessed an excellent growth rate of 21 percent, while Dubai saw an increase of 5 percent from the earlier year. Kuwait, which saw a growth of 37 percent, was the highest among all the BMW Middle East importers. Oman increased sales by 33 percent and Lebanon by 25 percent. Saudi Arabia came in next, raking in 17 percent more than the previous year. Dr.Joerg Breuer, Managing Director of the BMW Group, Middle East, spoke about the brand’s record-breaking performance, “These remarkable results clearly demonstrate the continued growth of the region’s economies, with the BMW Group making gains in almost all GCC and Levant markets, with almost all our importers recording double digit growth. It is also the first time that we have crossed the 20,000 unit mark – this has been a result of us making our bestselling models even better, our committed partners, who continue to invest in improving facilities and customer service, and the strength of our desirable brands. ”Speaking about BMWs’ plans for 2013, he said “It has been a great 12 months and we anticipate that 2013 will be another successful year for BMW Group in the Middle East. Together with our importer partners, we remain committed to driving our BMW Group brands forward in the Middle East with investments in facilities, customer service and the launch of new models.” Ever since its launch in October 2010, the BMW 5 Series has retained its top spot in 2012 too, with 5,210 vehicles delivered, making it the highest volume seller, contributing to 22 percent of all regional sales. The 7 Series also had a very impressive number to show, with sales of 4,145 cars to its credit. Also identified as top performers were other BMW models like the X5 Sports Activity Vehicle, which sold 3,639 cars; the X6 Sports Activity Coupé, with 2,638 cars sold; and the BMW 3 Series, of which 1,727 cars were sold. Apart from this, the BMW MINI, which, according to the company, is ‘the small car with the big cheeky attitude,’ contributed to 41 percent of the brand’s regional sales. The recently launched MINI coupé and MINI Roadster accounted for 20 percent of the brand’s sales in 2012. While BMW has penetrated into the Jordan market for the first time, strong investments have been made into the MINI showroom in the UAE and Saudi Arabia to cater to brand BMWs’ progressive growth in the coming years.
