As with its penchant to surprise luxury watch connoisseurs across the world with its one-of-its-kind creations, Baume & Mercier amazed guests at the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie (SIHH) 2016 with the Cobra, the famous race car of the 1960s
Celebrating the success of its partnership with Carroll Shelby International and the presentation of two new Capeland Shelby Cobra 1963 watches at the SIHH, Baume & Mercier immersed its guests in a 1960s-style paddock.
Recreating a paddock complete with authentic Cobra models in Geneva, guests were invited to sit behind the wheel of the legendary Cobra Sebring 289, participate in races on a scaled-down circuit, and experience a taste of the adrenaline that pumps through the veins of a Cobra pilot in pole position. Adding a dash of awe was the presence of its legendary pilot Allen Grant.
The Capeland Shelby Cobra collection also added to the evening’s glamour. It represented the absolute best of Shelby confidence and endurance, married to the pure design and unrivaled precision that has made Baume & Mercier sought after for over a century. Inspired by the Cobra’s performance, the Swiss-made self-winding movement combines quality and flawless accuracy with the highest standards. The case back is engraved with the name of the collection, as well as the words “one out of 1963” in reference to the number of limited-edition pieces and the year which saw the Cobra’s first victory at the American championship. Whether it is the 44 mm case in polished and satin-finished steel or the all-steel version with its ultra-resistant black ADLC coating, the timepiece produces an intense impression of power.
Keeping with the tone of the event, an exclusive gathering where visitors discover, before the rest of the world, creations that are sure to surprise, Baume & Mercier sure did elevate the element of astonishment.
