The Boutique Exclusive Edition is the crowning glory of famed watchmakers IWC Schaffhausen. Their three outstanding watch models – the Portuguese Hand-Wound Boutique Edition, the Ingenieur Automatic Boutique Edition and the Big Pilot’s Watch Perpetual Calendar Boutique Edition are now issued in red gold. These exquisite timepieces will be available at IWC Schaffhausen’s Avenue at the Etihad Towers, Abu Dhabi.
Here, we review two of the Boutique Exclusive Edition watches – the Big Pilot’s Watch Perpetual Calendar Boutique Edition and the Big Pilot’s Watch Edition Muhammad Ali that will be on display.
Big Pilot’s Watch Perpetual Calendar Boutique Edition
The red gold Big Pilot’s Watch Perpetual Calendar Boutique Edition is an impressive timepiece with a gold-plated dial and luminescent hands, featuring the time as well as displays for the date, day, month, year in four digits and double moon for the northern and southern hemisphere. It comes with a perpetual calendar housed within the original 49.2 millimetre case diameter of the Big Pilot’s Watch. The 16-jewel 51614 automatic calibre has a seven-day power reserve. Another unique feature of the IWC is the independent mechanically programmed calendar with its complete four digit year display, which will require no correction until the year 2100. Only 250 watches of this limited edition will be available worldwide.
Big Pilot’s Watch Edition Muhammad Ali
Dedicated to the legendary boxer, the Big Pilot’s Watch Edition Muhammad Ali is modelled on an IWC legend – the historic Big Pilot’s Watch of 1940. The organised matte-black dial, the arrowhead index at 12 o’clock and the bold, luminescent numerals and hands guarantee minute-perfect legibility of the time, regardless of the light. The signal-red Super-Luminova, which gives the watch a unique, sporty and distinctly masculine look, is inspired by the red boxing gloves Muhammad Ali wore frequently during his fights. The 42-jewel 51111 automatic calibre has a seven-day power reserve. The back of the case bears the official logo of Muhammad Ali’s 70th birthday. The exclusive watch will be sold in an impressive package, together with the monumental tome ‘GOAT – Greatest of All Time.’ With over 3,000 illustrations by more than 150 photographers and artists, the book is a celebration of Muhammad Ali’s life and a literary event in its own right.
