IWC Schaffhausen presents Boutique Exclusive Edition Watches

The Boutique Exclusive Edition is the crowning glory of famed watchmakers IWC Schaffhausen. Their three outstanding watch modelsthe Portuguese Hand-Wound Boutique Edition, the Ingenieur Automatic Boutique Edition and the Big Pilot’s Watch Perpetual Calendar Boutique Edition are now issued in red gold. These exquisite timepieces will be available at IWC Schaffhausen’s Avenue at the Etihad Towers, Abu Dhabi.

Here, we review two of the Boutique Exclusive Edition watches that will be on display. Watch this space for a review of the remaining piece, which will be brought to you soon.

Portuguese Hand-Wound Boutique Edition

The Portuguese Hand-Wound Boutique Edition comes in a 44-millimetre Portuguese red gold case, fitted with the 18-jewel 98295 calibre. Its predecessor was the first pocket watch model that was re-designed for the wrist, way back in 1939. It has succeeded in establishing a whole new genre in watch designing with its unusual dimensions, unconventional movement and discreet, subtle elegance. Though the pocket watch movement of the Portuguese Hand-Wound Boutique Edition has undergone a great deal of improvements, it still retains many of the design cues developed by the company’s founder F.A. Jones,  like the elongated index, which is used to set the effective length of the balance spring. The watch features a sapphire-glass back, a silver-plated dial with red gold Arabic numerals and slender hours/minutes hands. These stunning watches are limited to just one thousand pieces worldwide.

Ingenieur Automatic Boutique Edition

During the late 1940s and early 1950s, the company’s legendary Technical Director, Albert Pellaton, developed the first IWC automatic movement with a pawl-winding system and the Ingenieur Automatic Boutique Edition recalls this exciting era in IWC’s history. The 28-jewel 80111 calibre replaced this winding system several years ago and is even more robust now.  This self-winding system can be seen through the sapphire-glass back in the original Ingenieur’s 42.5-millimetre red gold case. The Ingenieur Automatic Boutique Edition has a brown dial and red gold indices. This model is limited to 500 pieces worldwide.
